What’s On
Between 18 July and 3 September, up to three children travel free with each full fare paying adult on the Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway.
Enjoy a relaxed 16 mile return journey, around 45 minutes each way, through the Welsh border countryside behind our historic steam locomotives. There are shaded picnic spots at both Welshpool and Llanfair Caereinion stations, so you can take your time and make a day of it with the family.
Our annual celebration of all things steam. Intensive train timetable, road steam, vintage vehicles, model railway exhibition, and lots more to explore.
Includes Garden Railway Show at Llanfair Leisure Centre on Saturday 5 September.
Special visitor: ‘Premier’ from the Sittingbourne & Kemsley Light Railway.

LLANFAIR GARDEN RAILWAY SHOW 2026

Free entry with valid Steam and Diesel Gala 2026 Saturday wristband. £6 for Garden Railway Show entry without Steam and Diesel Gala tickets. Please note that this is only payable on the door and cannot be pre-booked.
New this year: Powis Castle and Garden, Welshpool Town Council, Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway and Y Lanfa Museum have teamed up under the umbrella of Visit Welshpool to provide a programme of events for Open Doors 2026.
At the W&LLR, there will be talks on the history of the line and the engines in the Display Shed at Welshpool Raven Square Station at 11am and 2pm on both days, as well as guide-led walking tours of the old town section of the line in Welshpool at 11.30am and 2.30pm on both days, meeting at Welshpool Raven Square Station no later than 10 minutes before the tours start.
Rail tickets will be offered at a discounted rate (tickets coming soon).

Begin your journey at Llanfair Station, where you will enjoy a scenic narrow gauge steam train journey through the heart of mid Wales.
Children can enjoy complimentary activity sheet, crayon, biscuit and juice to enjoy during the journey, before seeing Paddington back at the station when you return, so don’t forget your camera!
