Car Parking

Large free car parks are situated at both our Llanfair Caereinion (SY21 0SF) and Welshpool Raven Square (SY21 7LT) stations.

There is no car parking facilities at any of our intermediate stations.

Toilets

Toilets are provided at our Llanfair Caereinion and Welshpool Raven Square stations.

There are no toilets on any of our trains.

Souvenirs

Gift shops are available at both Welshpool and Llanfair Caereinion stations selling a variety of toys, gifts for all ages, railway books and local Welsh products.

We work hard to welcome visitors of all abilities. Both Llanfair Caereinion and Welshpool stations are wheelchair accessible with dedicated parking bays.

Two of our vintage carriages have been specially adapted for wheelchair users. Please call 01938 810441 to check availability and book a space.

Our traditional Llanfair Station Tearoom offers a range of hot and cold food, drinks, ice cream, snacks and seasonal specials.

In nice weather, watch the trains from our large covered marquee and picnic tables at Llanfair Station.

At Welshpool Raven Square station, hot and cold drinks, snacks, and ice cream are available from our Station Shop.

Cloverlands Model Car Museum – Llanfair Connections now features this independent museum comprising the largest public collection of model vehicles in Wales.

Welshpool Display Sheds – Break your journey at Welshpool Station which houses our larger exhibits including heritage rolling stock and out of service steam engines (open on most train operating days).

Electric Vehicle Charging

EV CHARGE POINT TEMPORARILY UNAVAILABLE – Please Note, our electric vehicle charging point is current not available due to building work until at least November. We apologies for any inconvenience. 

Charge your car while you enjoy a ride on the train or a visit to the Tearoom. Arrive with 21st century technology and enjoy a train journey with 19th century technology, all with a warm welcome.

The railway has two Podpoint charging points at our Llanfair Caereinion site, with 22kW, Type 2 sockets and Three Phase AC. If you’re not already signed on with Podpoint, you can do so at charge.pod-point.com/signup; the same website lets you see if the points are available.

When you arrive at the railway, drive into our road, past the station, and look for the charging points outside the industrial building on the left.

Do you want to help us to keep our station sites looking tidy? Can you spare some time on Tuesdays or Wednesdays?

Then join our Buildings and Grounds Gang:

  • Help to keep our stations and facilities well cared for.
  • Carry out routine and general maintenance as part of a team.
  • Regular Tuesdays and Wednesdays throughout the year.
  • Join the team on a regular or occasional basis.
Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway - Lineside Vegetation Gang

Do you want to help us to keep our railway line looking tidy? Can you spare some time on occasional weekends - one weekend per month or less?

Then join our Fence-to-Fence gang:

  • Be part of the team managing vegetation alongside the railway line.
  • Work outdoors as part of the team.
  • Regular two-day weekends throughout the year.

Are you happy working outside in the fresh air? Do you love the satisfaction of seeing a job well done?

  • Be part of our track gang, maintaining eight miles of railway track.
  • Work outdoors as part of the team.
  • Repairs and routine maintenance.
  • Weekday operations – currently every Friday.
  • Light tasks included, so no need for physical strength.
  • Reasonable mobility is required.

  • Maintain and restore heritage locomotive engines.

Do you want to volunteer and prefer to be indoors? Then join our busy station team as a Shop Keeper:

  • Serving customers in our station shops.

  • Learn ‘footplate roles’ from Fireman through to Steam Engine Driver.
  • Train on heritage steam and diesel engines.

Are you looking for a new volunteering experience? How about becoming a Guard or Controller Blockman for our heritage trains?

  • Manage all aspects of passenger train journeys.
  • Oversee train movements and timekeeping.
  • Help visitors to their seats and check tickets.
  • As Controller Blockman, take control of signals and points.
  • Full training provided.

Do you enjoy making people happy? Then you’ll love volunteering as our Station Master!

  • Despite the title, women are very welcome too!
  • Oversee smooth operation of the station site.
  • Ticket sales.
  • Ensure station safety and cleanliness.
  • Make our visitors feel welcome.
  • Full training provided.
  • Start with Assistant Station Master role if preferred.
