Our Current Appeal

A Railway Transformed

Help us with a donation today to restore a key locomotive, renovate two coaches and build a third vehicle for our premium train.

A Key Locomotive

No.7 Chattenden

Built in 1949, for use on the Upnor & Lodge Hill Railway, our 0-6-0 diesel Chattenden was a witness to the wholesale change from steam to diesel traction after WW2 and has been a loyal W&L servant for over 50 years.

Higher Standards

Preparing No.7 for the Future

Now, it is time to overhaul Chattenden to bring this well-loved locomotive up to a high standard of maintenance, conservation and appearance. This is expected to cost approximately £120,000.

Improving Experiences

A Premium, Dining Train

We are also planning to create the first premium dining train on any narrow gauge railway in mainland Britain with two upgraded vehicles and one new carriage.

Meeting Expectations

Sierra Leone Upgrades

Two of our least-used carriages, both built in 1961 for the independence of Sierra Leone, are to be upgraded for much more regular use on our line. The third class coach is to be fitted with replica padded second class seats and tables for dining. Our current first class carriage requires new seats, particularly as it is proving very popular with visitors now able to travel on it on most running days from 2021.

The Show-Stopper

A New Vehicle

Affectionately known as the 'Queens Coach' in Sierra Leone, the basis for our new-built vehicle is preserved in the National Railway Museum of that African nation. It was build in 1961 for a state visit, but sadly never used. Now, we are planning a version with encased glass end and first-class interior for inclusion in many of our service trains
